July 28th Event:  Worship Service, Boger City Methodist Church, Lincolnton, NC    07/28/2013
On Sunday July 28th, Cross Members gathered at Boger City United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, NC for worship.  This date marks an important milestone in the development of our young club.  For the first time in our short history, our families came together for worship service. This significant event in the life of our club, allowed like-minded individuals - Christian car enthusiasts -  the opportunity to come together for the first time to worship the God we place at the center of our lives and the center of Cross Members.  As a Christian based club, we are so thankful for the blessings of friends and fellowship. Following the worship service, the group enjoyed a community luncheon hosted by the church in the fellowship hall.  A special "thank you" to Pastor Eric Reece and his staff at Boger City United Methodist Church for welcoming our group.  We would also like to extend our appreciation to the congregation of BCUMC for their hospitality.  A most significant day in the history of Cross Members.

September 7th Event:  Ice Cream Social - Tony's Ice Cream, Gastonia, NC    09/07/2013
Saturday, September 7, 2013 marked the last event of the inaugural driving season for our Cross Members Club.  The club made the short cruise down Highway 321 to Gastonia for some frozen treats at Tony's Ice Cream.  On a hot Saturday afternoon, it doesn't get any better than Tony's Ice Cream with a bunch of friends in cool cars!  The group welcomed first-time participants Kevin & Lanelle Coffey and their '65 Chevelle SS.  Following the frozen treats at Tony's, the group motored back up 321 to Lincolnton to the home of Joe & Deannie Morris.  There we were welcomed with a buffet of delicious "pick-up" foods and desserts.  While Deannie's outstanding culinary skills were evident in the kitchen, Joe was able to show the group his myriad of projects that always has him busy.  An avid collector of old signs and antique toys, he's been able to amass a very impressive collection of both.  Cross Members sincerely thanks the Morris'  for their hospitality, welcoming us  into their beautiful home to share in their collected treasures - rekindling memories of days gone by.  This scene was a befitting way to end a memory filled inaugural driving season for Cross Members.  It's been a great first season for Cross Members, trusting the first of many to come.

June 8th Event: Cruise-In, Kannapolis, NC      06/08/2013
On Saturday June 8th, the club traveled to Kannapolis, NC for the cruise-in sponsored by the Cabarrus Events Association. The event is held in Kannapolis on the second Saturday of each month, March thru November. The downtown area of Kannapolis provided a perfect setting for this event. Beautiful tree-lined streets provided a break from the summer sun. Interesting old architecture of the downtown buildings provided a great backdrop for the automobiles of "yester-year" that aligned the streets. Plenty of food vendors, great music, excellent weather, good fellowship, and streets lined with beautiful old cars - all made for a memorable day for Cross Members. The club thanks Don Brafford for his contact efforts with the association, allowing the club to park together in the reserved club section. Another enjoyable outing for Cross Members!

The club would like to extend our thanks to Rick and Carol for their hospitality and their efforts in hosting our annual "Toy Car Cookout". Rick was outstanding on the grill, Carol was the perfect hostess, and the site, (complete with a brand new picnic shelter) was the perfect setting for a "Toy Car" get-together. Rick's original 1960's caboose was a hit with the Cross Members gang as well as the "Little Blue Choo" ride on his nature trail. Thanks also to Deanie Morris for the addition of her German Chocolate Inside-Out cake. We were blessed with absolutely perfect weather, the "TOYS" all looked sharp, good fellowship was experienced, and an enjoyable time was had by all. August 23 Event:  Crusin for A Cause, Lincolnton, NC  08-23-2014
On Saturday, August 23rd, 2014, Cross Members attended the, much anticipated "Cruisin 4 A Cause" event in the club's hometown of Lincolnton, NC.  This event provides vital funds for assistance to many non-profit organizations in the Lincolnton area.  Non-profit organizations receiving aide in the past were:  Amy's House, Relay for Life, Lincoln County Coalition Against Child Abuse and the Hesed House of Hope.  The funds raised at this event accounts for a significant difference in the services these non-profit organizations are able to provide for those in need locally.  Cross Members Car Club is proud to be associated with such a worthy endeavor.

Following the threat of rain for most of the day on Saturday, and a brief shower just prior to the group assembling, the weather actually cooperated and provided an excellent setting for the cruise.  The group assembled at Big Lots at 4:30pm.  Following a brief club meeting, we departed at 5 for the short drive to downtown Lincolnton.  Once all the cars of Cross Members were carefully parked on Main Street, the club's official banner was displayed for the first time.  The Cross Members banner is a really nice touch that readily identified our club at outings such as this.  Following a meal together at Court Street Grill, the group settled back in lawn chairs on the sidewalks of Main Street Lincolnton, to watch the "cruiser" pass.  For those of us from Lincolnton, this brought back many memories of our teenage years when we "cruised the courthouse" on Saturday nights.  Clean muscle machines, cute girls, hanging out with friends, burgers, fries and cokes......aaaaahhhh, the simple good times of  "yester-year"!  The night ended with quite a few "burn-outs" to the delight of Joe, Rick, Robby, Michael, and Terry.  As burn-outs began to get  a little wild, a few of Lincolnton's finest appeared to restore order!  This event was much anticipated, and did not disappoint.  It was well attended by our club, and a good time was had by all.  We were pleased to welcome Rick & Carol's daughter Lauren, her husband Sam Meek Lockridge along with their beautiful daughter Caylin.

Cross Members sincerely thanks Robbie & Donna Scates for all of their efforts to organize this outing for our group.  All of their organization and planning made for a special day for Cross Members.  Thanks guys!

September 28th Event:  High Country Cruise, Boone, NC  09-28-2014

On Sunday, September 28th, the Cross Members Car Club embarked on the much anticipated "High Country Cruise".  Following high expectations and much anticipation, this Fall classic cruise did not disappoint.  For this cruise, Cross Members enjoyed a long leisurely drive on a cool Fall Sunday morning through the beautiful rural roads of Western North Carolina.  The highlight of the cruise was the meandering drive along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.  With a hint of crispness in the air, a few burnt orange leaves fluttering across the Parkway pavement, in addition to the bright rays of sunshine peaking through the trees - the scene was set for a parade of shinny Cross Members "toys" to invade the High Country.  Julian Price Park was our first stop on our mountain region joyride.  At the park we were joined by fellow car enthusiast, Finley "Pap" Hodges of Boone, NC, driving his 1960 convertible Corvette.  Pap's beautifully restored Ermine White classic Corvette, was a welcomed addition to the other prized possessions that make up the "Cars of Cross Members".  From Price Park, the caravan of classic "toys" made its way to downtown Boone and the Dan'l Boone Inn Restaurant.  Before sharing a meal, we were blessed by an inspiring devotional led by "Pap".  We very much appreciate him sharing his insight into the gospel of the Holy Bible.  Next a fantastic meal including fried chicken, ham biscuits, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, Salisbury steak, baked apples, and dessert was served family style.  A great meal to top off a great day of cruising!  The "High Country Cruise" was the final outing of the Cross Members Car Club's 2014 driving season.  The cruise up the mountain was a huge hit with the members.  Talk has already begun regarding plans for next year for an expanded return cruise in 2015.

Congratulations to all Cross Members on a fantastic second year!  As our club continues to evolve, as members continue to enjoy the collector car hobby as well as each other's company - we remain ever-mindful that all we have is a blessing from The Lord.  These blessings have come our way, not because we've been so good, but because He's seen fit to be so gracious.  See you in 2015!

December 2nd Event:  The Christmas Gathering, Lineberger's Steakhouse, Denver, NC    12-02-14
In celebration of Christ's birth, Cross Members gathered at Lineberger's Steakhouse in Denver, North Carolina on Tuesday, December 2nd.  As we enter the Advent Season, a sense of great anticipation - we anxiously await the birth of a Savior.  During this holiday season, as we gather with family and fiends, let us remain ever-mindful of what this season is truly about.  It is during this time we celebrate the coming of the Christ child - THE BIRTH OF A SAVIOR!  Far too often, we manage to get our emphasis and our focus misplaced around the commercialization that has become synonymous with the celebration we now know as Christmas.  God chose the humblest of settings, the meek and the lowly to bring to the world the greatest gift ever known.  We would do well to remember that as we go about our Christmas celebrations.  The simple sharing of a great meal, in the company of good friends is a fitting manner in which to honor the birth of our Lord and Savior.  This is the type evening Cross Members enjoyed during our first annual Christmas gathering.  We are thankful for the blessings bestowed upon us by our Savior.  We are thankful for our club and its members.  This was the final event on the Cross Members' calendar for 2014.  We move forward with much anticipation to 2015, as we continue to strive to do God's will in our lives.  I think all would agree that Cross Members Car Club in it's short time of existence, has proven to be a blessing to us all.  I sincerely thank each of you for your part in developing the club to be thought of in those terms.

May 24th Event: Car Show at Northwest Cabarrus High School & Cross Members' Annual "Toy Car Cookout"    05/16/2015
On Saturday, May 16, 2015 Cross Members Car Club opened its third driving season with a trip to Concord, NC, visiting the campus of Northwest Cabarrus High School.  There the club participated in the school's Bible Teaching Association Charity Car Show.  Funds raised at this event  help fund the Bible courses offered at Northwest.  The Bible Association at Northwest serves as a nurturing, loving, support system while providing students with knowledge of the Bible.  This Christian Association equips those students with a  much needed  foundation, as they navigate the pressures and temptations young people face each day as they enter the halls of America's high schools.  Cross
Members proudly supports the administration of Northwest Cabarrus High School and the Cabarrus County School System for providing this valuable learning opportunity for it's young people.  Our club was honored to be in support of this extremely worthwhile Christian venture.  The event was well organized, well attended and attracted some really nice classic automobiles.  Following the awards ceremony, the group made the 10 minute trip to Don & Carolyn Brafford's home for the annual Cross Members "Toy Car Cookout".  There we were welcomed onto their beautiful grounds by this exceptional couple. It was readily evident much care and planning had taken place prior to our arrival.  Welcoming you as you entered "Poppy's Garage" was Carolyn's display featuring each Cross Member car, photos from past outings, as well as the 2015 Cross Members event schedule.   Everything was perfect!  Their home was beautiful, the lawn was manicured, the garage was immaculate and the food was plentiful and delicious.  All aspects of the group's needs were anticipated and accounted for.  The warm hospitality of this special couple made for another exceptional outing for Cross Members.  The Braffords once again exhibited what special people make up the body of Cross Members, which in turn makes every outing enjoyable and special.

On Sunday, June 7th, Cross Members Car Club gathered for worship at the home church of members Tim and Debbie Edwards - Crosspointe Baptist Church in Concord, NC.  Upon our arrival at Crosspointe, the club was warmly greeted and welcomed to their worship service by members of the congregation as well as the senior Pastor, Leon Hawks.  Cross Members would like to thank Pastor Hawks and his congregation of Crosspointe Baptist, for allowing us the privilege of joining them for Sunday morning worship.  Following morning worship, our club made the short drive  to Logan's Steakhouse for lunch.  There we enjoyed a good meal and great fellowship.  Thanks to Tim and Debbie Edwards for the invitation to worship at Crosspointe, as well as providing the arrangements for the meal.  As always, each Cross Members' outing proves to be unique and special.  Anytime we are afforded the opportunity to gather for worship, it only serves to strengthen our individual and collective efforts to serve and please God.  On this day, Pastor Hawks spoke from 1 John, chapter 3 and asked the question...."How do you want to be known?  Do you want to be known as religious.... as a church-going person....known for knowing the bible?"  We should each strive to be known as "righteous disciples" - a righteous person, that's known as a disciple of Christ - born of God, practicing righteousness day-by-day.

October 17th Event:  High Country Cruise, Boone, NC / Mountain City, TN    10-17-15
The highlight of our summer driving season is always our club's cruise to the High Country.  This driving season's finale took place on a brisk Fall Saturday morning,  as Cross Members departed Lincolnton at 8:15am to begin our all-day trek to the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.  Traveling west out of Lincolnton on highway 27, we began our scenic route to Boone, NC via highway 181 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The Fall foliage of the Blue Ridge Mountains was beautiful as our trip happened to coincide with "peak leaf weekend".  The shinny cool cars of Cross Members only added to nature's beauty.  Following a brief stop at the Boone Mall, the club continued along highway 421 north until we reached town of Mountain City, Tennessee - home to the family cabin of "Pap" and Linda Hodges.  As you turn to travel up the long meandering driveway, over the rolling hills,  the view of the cabin sitting  perched high atop a grassy knoll, immediately gives you a sense of peace and tranquility.  This "post-card-like" site is like none-other.  It's nature's beauty at its best.   Seated in the rockers on the large full-length front porch, the views of the open expanse of land is awe inspiring.  The rustic logs of the cabin makes for a  beautiful home and "Pap" and Linda's hospitality was equally as nice.    A beautiful brisk Fall afternoon, an incredibly picturesque country setting, good food and good friends, and beautiful cars - what a way to close the third driving season of Cross Members Car Club.  A special thanks to "Pap" and Linda for opening their cabin and welcoming the club to their very special portion of God's green earth.

December 7th Event:  Christmas Dinner, Hesed House / Lincolnton, NC  12-07-15
Webster defines "Hesed" as Hebrew for lovingkindness.  Hesed is the idea of faithful love in action.  Often in the Old Testament, Hesed refers to God's lovingkindness expressed in His covenant relationship with Israel.  God's lovingkindness is persistent with unconditional tenderness, kindness, and mercy.  It's a relationship in which He seeks after man with love and mercy.

In celebration of Christ's birth, the Cross Members Car Club gathered at the Hesed House, the homeless shelter of Lincoln County, on Monday evening, December 7th at 6pm.   Christmas 2014 saw our club begin a tradition of sharing a Christmas meal together.  In keeping with the tradition, it was decided 2015's meal would be a little different, a little more significant, a little more meaningful.   The Cross Members Club decided to share a covered dish Christmas meal with the clients of  Hesed House.   This event was well attended by club members and an overabundance of delicious food was provided.  The clients as well as our club members enjoyed a time of fellowship, food and a short devotional.  Joining our group for the meal and providing the devotional was Pastor Eric Reece of Boger City United Methodist Church.  Many club members also donated rain gear (ponchos, umbrellas, hand-warmers, toboggans, mittens etc.) to assist the clients as the need arises.

These acts of faithful love in action is what sharing the Christmas spirit is about.  As we busy our lives making preparations for the celebration of a Savior's birth, let us always remember to pause to give thanks to our God for our overabundance of blessings.  Most important of which, the greatest gift the world has ever received - Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  Cross Members
is thankful for the opportunity to share the many blessings God has entrusted to us.  As always, the blessing was in the giving.

August 5th Event:  Rick Hendrick's Museum, Concord, NC                                                                           08-05-16

Friday, August 5th will be a date the members of Cross Members Car Club will not soon forget.  On that Friday afternoon, Cross Members gathered at 1:30pm to begin a trek that led to the most memorable event in the history of our club.  Our group traveled to Concord, North Carolina for an "invitation only" tour of  the Rick Hendrick's Racing Museum, as well as a tour of  the Hendrick Heritage Center.  The Heritage Center is home to his personal collection of classic and high performance cars.  The center is also a tribute to the life of this Corvette Hall of Fame member.

Stepping inside the door will take you back in time to when American muscle cars ruled the street and gas was only 31 cent per gallon.  On display in a truly unique setting was a superb  collection of  over 200 Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, vintage Belairs, as well as many other exotic automobiles.  A favorite was the 1967 silver and black 427 Corvette featured on the Velocity Channel's show, "The Last Stingray".  This C2 car was the last Stingray built until Chevrolet revived the moniker 47 years later.

Mr. Hendrick's collection could quite possibly be one of the largest and most complete Corvette collection known to exist.  This invitation only excursion was a once-in-a-life time thrill for most of our members.  To simply say it was a memorable day for a car enthusiast, is a gross understatement.  This is a must-see for all car enthusiasts.  Should you ever be afforded an invitation to this experience - skip work, call in sick, take a personal leave day - do whatever you need to do - but do not miss an opportunity to view this collection!  It will make a lasting impression!

Following the museum tours, the club made the short trip over to Queen City Q of Concord for a delicious meal of Carolina Bar-B-Que.  Thanks once again to Tim & Debbie Edwards for organizing  this incredible outing for our club.  As always with the Edwards, the outing was well planned and all the details were covered.

December 5th Event:  Christmas Dinner, Hesed House / Lincolnton, NC  12-05-16
Webster defines "Hesed" as Hebrew for lovingkindness.  Hesed is the idea of faithful love in action.  Often in the Old Testament, Hesed refers to God's lovingkindness expressed in His covenant relationship with Israel.  God's lovingkindness is persistent with unconditional tenderness, kindness, and mercy.  It's a relationship in which He seeks after man with love and mercy.

In celebration of Christ's birth, the Cross Members Car Club gathered at the Hesed House, the homeless shelter of Lincoln County, on Monday evening, December 5th at 6pm. It was decided that our club would have this event as our annual Christmas gathering.    As always, this event was well attended by club members and an overabundance of delicious food was provided.

In attendance:  Don & Carolyn Brafford, Rick Walker, Joe & Deanie Morris, Max Hamilton, Lavell Hall, Kevin & Lanelle Coffey, Tim & Debbie Edwards, Terry & Jane Edwards, Robbie & Donna Scates, Vicki Lackey  Guest:  Pastor Eric Reece
